Reflections 5 & 6
When I first saw the specifications and participation rubric for our group project, I honestly felt overwhelmed by the expectations of designing a thematic unit. Understandably, we all have busy lives and completing this group project seemed impossible at times. April and May are busy months for most teachers (especially for me as an EC Case Manager), so multi-tasking was very important. It was essential for all team members to be clear on their responsibilities and contribute to this project. From my perspective, we all persevered and our group project was developed on time.
After my research and investigation into early childhood education, my previous understanding of what preschoolers did all day has been retracted. Since lesson plans are a great aid in teaching, those assigned to these tasks attached great importance and detail to the final draft. In reviewing these lesson plans, an important and often the hardest thing was making sure the technology had purposeful and efficient content. Technology helps supplement the unit by making student learning more meaningful, relevant and interesting as well as fun. When technology is effectively integrated into various instructional areas, students are able to learn and teachers can achieve professional growth.
We all showed our strength in one way or another which is what a group project should be. Everyone completed their assigned tasks and the display of collaborative work efforts is very much appreciated. Thanks to Savannah, Mary, Renee, Stephanie, Denise and Marjorie – they helped me a lot in this group project and I learned valuable information about developmental levels that I will be able to share with others.
This class and opportunity was a great experience for me. I am a believer in sharing, and collaborating ideas with my peers. Networking and collaborating is very important in the education field because we all have our own ideas and ways of teaching that can be shared with other teachers. Preparing this Unit was a given to share with other teachers with different ideas that was brought together. During this time we shared our thoughts and suggestions to each other that was very helpful. As teachers we learn team work and working as a team produces product. Out of this team work we produced a teachable unit that will help to prepare our students for the different life skills that they will soon one day have to face.
